Officina Plantiniana Book Collection at the National Library of Lithuania
“Officina Plantiniana Collection at the National Library of Lithuania” (Vilnius, 2022) is a book catalogue that delves into the influential legacy of the Officina Plantiniana publishing house in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Despite the thriving book printing industry in our region, the local supply could not satiate the voracious appetite for knowledge. This led to a significant number of books being sourced from abroad, among which the works of Officina Plantiniana stand out for their cultural and historical importance.
This catalogue is the result of dedicated research by Dr. Milda Kvizikevičiūtė, Eva Praškevič, and Dr. Viktorija Vaitkevičiūtė from the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. It introduces readers not only to the productions of Officina Plantiniana but also sheds light on the former owners of these books. Additionally, it explores the possible circumstances under which these books arrived in Lithuania and their subsequent distribution pathways. The catalogue also offers insights into the intricate interplay between local and foreign influences in the Lithuanian literary tradition.
Join us as we explore the legacy of Officina Plantiniana through the treasures preserved in the National Library of Lithuania. Discover the stories behind the books that have been instrumental in our cultural journey and celebrate the enduring impact of this iconic publishing house on Lithuanian culture.
